About The Broadjam 6-Pack

Over $100,000 in prizes are on the line.

There's nothing better than a fresh 6-Pack right in front of you, is there? The 2009 6-Pack Contest is upon us, and the challenges — not to mention the prizes — will be better than ever. The 6-Pack Contest consists of six individual songwriting challenges, which run from June until December. Prizes are awarded at each challenge step, but each challenge is also designed to be a little more difficult than the previous. By the sixth challenge, the icy-cold six-pack will have become as hot as freshly steeped tea. Make no mistake: this is Broadjam's most challenging and rewarding contest. Are you up to it?

Participants earn one point for each song entered, but the winners will pull their high score from the opinions of their peers. All contestants rate each other's work, and the peer-popular songs earn points for each high review. Custom prize packages are awarded to three winners in each challenge, and in the end, 20 overall competition winners will walk away with new gear. Best of all, the participant who earns the most points throughout all six challenges wins the grand prize package. Keep your eyes on the leaderboard because it's going to be an exciting year, and don't forget to share your comments in the 6-Pack blog.

How The Contest Works

All entrants receive a point for each song submitted to any 6-Pack challenge. Artists earn additional points for every song that places in the Top 20 of each challenge. A song's rank is determined by the average rating it receives from peer reviews. It is possible for an artist to have more than one song in the Top 20.

During the review process for each challenge, songs may change places frequently, thus altering the number of points awarded as new reviews are submitted. Therefore, points shown for a challenge that is still in the review stage are not final. Only when the review period ends will the artist receive the points for that challenge. The leaderboard will update every hour, but the results of reviews are delayed by one week. That means that the hourly changes to the leaderboard are based on reviews that happened one week earlier, and the review period for each challenge ends one week after reviews close.

Although reviewers will be required to rate all songs as good, better or best, they will also have the option to mark a song inappropriate for that challenge. This means that the reviewer believes the song is not appropriate for the challenge requirements (i.e. a love ballad in a heavy metal challenge). Songs marked inappropriate will be reviewed by the Broadjam staff and removed when inappropriateness is confirmed. The Top 20 songs for each challenge will receive between 50 and 1,000 points - first place receives 1,000 and subsequent point values, decreasing in increments of 50, are awarded to the 19 runners up.

Broadjam will name the winners for each challenge, according to point totals. At the end of the final challenge, the 20 participants who have accumulated the most points throughout the competition will receive prize packages.

The "Cover Can"

The 6-Pack blogosphere has spoken. You want a cover song challenge, you got it! The "Cover Can" challenge asks you to create a cover song centered on one or more of these songs:

  1. You Are My Sunshine - Jimmie Davis
  2. Georgia on My Mind - Hoagy Carmichael
  3. Nothing But The Best - Johnny Rotella
  4. Besame Mucho - (English version) Consuelo Velazquez and English lyrics by Sunny Skylar
  5. Everyday - Buddy Holly, Norman Petty

After submissions close, your peers will vote to decide who entered the best cover song!

We've taken care of the legal stuff, so cover freely. There are several recorded versions of each of these songs, and we don't want to influence production by suggesting a version for each one. It's up to you to find recorded versions of the song you want to cover. For those who are stumped and can't find any of these songs, we (or someone else) may drop a hint in the 6-Pack Blog down the line. But for the rest of you, let the recording begin and make sure to put your stamp on it. We can't wait to see what you come up with!

Make it yours!

Two-Timer

You Two-Timer! Sound like a compliment? For once, it is! For this challenge, we want you to use at least two time signatures in your song. The best song will incorporate time changes, while remaining a great overall piece.
